Almajdouie Logistics World Movement for Ras Tanura DST Project – Saudi Arabia

International projects department (IPD) of Almajdouie Group secured number of projects during the year 2008 & 2009.  One of the valuable projects is of Samsung Engg. Co., Ltd., which awarded thru Hyupjin Shipping Co., ltd., of Korea for the haulage of oversize & heavy cargo with a total volume of 6122.355 freight ton.

Two heaviest reactor units of this project weighting 403 tons each admeasuring 32.89x5.81x6.10m (LWH) transported successfully to the job site using 12 axles conventional trailer.  The journey of about 60 kms from Jubail to the Ras Tanura Diesel Hydro Treatment (DHT) plant at Ras Tanura, KSA was successful only because of our expert studies & analysis which were made prior to the movement.
Almajdouie being in business of heavy haulage for almost 4 decades is accustomed of handling every shipment with a real challenge.  Prior execution of these cargoes movement, it went thru the process which includes; thorough route survey to identify the hassles viz., removal of street lights, signal lights, barricades, fencing & other street furniture.

There upon the technical department with their latest means of infrastructure scrutinizes the stability of cargo keeping in view “Safe & scheduled Delivery” prepares the method of statement (MOS) recommending the suitable trailer configuration, points of lashing methods of securing & studies the simulation to have swift trailer maneuvering at congested crossings.  MOS together with the transportation drawings will duly be presented to client & confirms the safe move.

When the vessel calls at the port for discharge, due to port regulations restrictions heavy (above 20 tons) & oversize above 12 x 2.5 x 2.5m (LWH) should be taken on direct delivery.  With real time updates & due coordination with the shipping agent, trailers placed for direct delivery to avoid vessel detention & cargo placed on stools at the lay down area after discharge in order to release the trailer & avoid trailer detention claims on to the client.

Upon customs clearance, cargo pulled out by placing trailers within free days from the port & placed at our own lay down in order to deliver the cargo at the site demand.

Said reactors (1 and 2) were scheduled to deliver at site on 4th & 10th June 09 & our operations team with the escort of supervisors & crew with their full fledge PPE started journey from our lay down on 31st May & 6th June respectively.  At certain points had to cross highway disturbing the regular traffic for which the GRO (Govt. Relations Officer) obtained timely assistance from the local traffic police & cross. At another point which was close to the site had to pass thru the high voltage electric cable which too was requested to the concerned authorities for the power shut off during the crossing & finally reached to the site safely as scheduled on 4th & 10th respectively.

Cargo was offloaded at site & erected to the foundation using the site crane.

Similarly, the next heaviest 2 units of this project were HP stripper & HP Absorber weighting 176 & 130 tons admeasuring 37.82x4.81x5.06 & 25.61x3.46x3.73m (LWH) respectively were transported from a local fabricator in Jubail Gulf Heavy Industries (GHI) using 18 axle & 12 axle conventional trailers.  Considering the location of this fabricator shop new route survey was conducted & had to move thru the city limits & at some points went against traffic which demanded permissions from concerned authorities & support of their personnel.

Finally all units delivered safe & sound fulfilling are demands of our valued customers.  In 2009 we at Almajdouie anticipate to move another 11 huge such units from Jubail to Ras Tanura Jobsite.
